The image is in very nice condition, however note that the caption & a portion of the bottom margin have a light tape stain.

Changing jobs again inNast became an illustrator for Harper’s Weekly, a position he would hold for the next 25 years. In political circles, Thomas Nast was an ardent Republican who favored abolition and opposed segregation.

VII No. T are sixteen pages with several civil war photos. I don't know if these sixteen pages are the entire paper. This was Winslow Homer's first illustration for Harper's Weekly. His published magazine work had appeared first in Boston's Ballou's Pictorial only two months previously.

With plenty of narrative detail, Homer depicted the incoming Harvard freshmen confronting their sophomore classmates (distinguished by top hats); a ball placed between them.

Harper's Weekly and Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. In addition to the dates listed above, which are mostly not marked as reproductions, the entire series of Harper's Weekly from January of through December of have been reprinted in recent years.
